We use only the best steel mills to source raw materials for our ultrafine wires. These are generally re-melted up to three times to reach the required quality levels; any impurity in the process can impact upon eventual quality.
The raw wire is delivered in to us with a wire diameter of 0.9mm. This is refined to 0.2mm in an initial multi-stage process. These cold working wire drawing processes compress the wire. The hardened structure has to be annealed using subsequent processing to achieve the final diameter value.
Using fine drawing machines, the wire diameter is reduced to its target value, undergoing a further 25 to 39 wire drawing stages.
Subsequent recrystallisation annealing imparts the individual wire properties. These are defined by the requirements of the weaving plant.
The final inspection includes a visual check of the wire surface, mechanical verification using a stress-strain diagramme and a check on wire diameter and construction.
